Iir Hermeliin is an Estonian stage and costume designer. Her work crosses a range of genres: she designs for theatrical productions, television and film. She also creates interior designs. In theatre she has worked on a variety of performance styles from small-scale drama to large site-specific productions.
Iir was awarded the Estonian Theatre Union's prize for Best Musical Theatre Design in 2004 and 2012. She received Tallinn City Theatre's Best Designer prize in 2003, 2004 and 2007, as well as The Estonian Scenographers' Union's Award for Best Design in 2004.
In addition to theatre work, Iir has created designs for some major large-scale events in Estonia. She was one of the set designers of Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn, and of the European Film Academy Award Ceremony in 2011. Twice she has also designed the Independence Day reception hosted by the President of Estonia.
She trained in scenography at Estonian Academy of Arts. In 1998 she completed her postgraduate study at Prague Academy of Performing Arts. Her first work in professional theatre premiered in 1994. Since then she has designed over fifty productions in Estonia with all major national and independent theatres. In 2003 - 2012 she worked as chief designer of Tallinn City Theatre.
